Community Chest Grants

Could you benefit?

Toddlers enjoying the Blossoming Families groupCalling all local groups and community organisations. If you have a project which needs additional funding support or perhaps an idea for a new event or activity that will benefit your local community in some way, then you may be eligible for a Community Chest grant.

Local clubs, groups and organisations that need support for specific projects can apply for funding from a special fund which has been set up by Community Counts. The Community Chest Fund provides grants for projects based within the Community Counts areas of Barton, Tredworth and White City and which contribute in some way to building community cohesion.

Or, if it is a short-term project or a one-off event, the application must illustrate how this will provide a speedy solution to a particular problem or address a local issue. Organisations meeting these criteria will be eligible for any amount up to a maximum of £1,000.

Green-Fingered Fun in Barton

A girl from Bartongate Children's Centre digging in the vegetable gardenThere's been a buzz of excitement at the Bartongate Children's Centre recently with staff, parents and children busy launching a new outdoor gardening project.

The project involves creating a vegetable garden and digging patch in part of the outdoor play area of the centre and encouraging children, parents and volunteers to take part in digging, planting and growing fruit and vegetables.  Organiser Gail Johnson, curriculum leader and deputy manager at the centre, commented: "We arranged for a tutor from Hartpury College to run some practical courses in gardening  skills for parents and we're aiming to use the vegetables that we grow in a range of activities with children at the centre.

"We'll be promoting healthy living by introducing them to new foods, helping to expand their creative skills by using the plants in classroom activities such as vegetable printing, plus we'll be demonstrating the science of how plants grow.  And, of course, they'll benefit from the physical side of digging and working in the garden."

Funding for the project, which should be up and running by the end of this school term, has come from a grant of £1000 from the Community Chest Fund.
